Doing the unneccessary to avoid the necessary – WTF

Dear Brain:

I know what you’re doing and you need to stop it.

Right now!!!

I’m reminded of an old comedy routine by a guy named Bob Nelson in which he states:

The mind is a terrible thing… And it must be stopped

Don't be afraidWhile the mind isn’t actually a terrible thing most of the time, it is still quite tricky in its ability to manipulate us if we let it.

About two weeks ago, I mentioned “cheating” my way through the Wealthy Affiliate training to get a preview of what I was going to be working through.

After that, I went back to Course 2, Lesson 7 where I’ve been sitting ever since.

So, what the hell have I been doing for the last two weeks?

Everything possible to not do what I’m afraid to do, that’s what.  It’s not a terrifying fear, but a nagging subtle one based in self-doubt and uncertainty.  Completely normal but unnecessary.

On the plus side, I have been averaging about one post every other day on this blog, which is something I’ve never accomplished before. That’s a good thing, but this isn’t my primary revenue source.

I’ve also been spending a lot of time being active in the WA community, which is also a good thing if you don’t spend too much time that should be spent working on sites. If you let it, the Wealthy Affiliate community can be just as much of a time suck as Facebook or any other distraction.

Additionally, I’ve been searching for solutions that I need for other sites I have, i.e. WP plugins, themes, etc.

Today I spent the majority of the day roaming WA, answering some questions, and looking at social newtorking plugins, forum plugins, and a number of other things that have nothing to do with the review site that I should be working on.

While these last two weeks definitely have some positive activities in them, I’m avoiding what I want to be my top priority.

It’s something I’ll work through, but I wanted to waste some more time by acknowledging it and writing about it, lol. 🙂

Perhaps my path will change down the road, but I really need to give the review site some legitimate, focused, consistent attention to see what the potential is. After that, I can evaluate whether or not there is a future for me with that site.

As always, I am as much of a work in progress as my sites are.

So, do you find yourself keeping busy doing the things you shouldn’t be doing instead of the things you should be doing??
