I can’t resist having a little laugh at myself in this post about the extraordinary irony of the recent developments in my world. Day after day I go by working at developing the motivation to create blog posts, get more active in social media, add content to my sites, etc.
Occasionally I scream at myself about not doing these things when I know I have enough knowledge and skills to make it work and get out of a job I don’t care for. The job holds no future for me, has crappy pay, and I’ve begun looking for a new place to call home.
As I mentioned in my last post, I was just offered a new gig at UpWork for a position in WordPress and Social Media support. After a nice interview on Google Hangouts, I received and accepted the offer. Yesterday we had a team meeting which served as a bit of an orientation for what I’ll be doing and some expectations.
Although I already had a pretty good idea of what I was going to be doing, the team meeting confirmed what I thought and over the last 18 hours the total and utter irony of the whole thing has really begun setting in. SMH
In addition to working on developing a solid customer support desk for a client, some of my other tasks include….. creating blog posts, helping companies get active in social media, and adding/editing/updating content on their websites. Ugghh, does that look familiar? 🙂
As I said, I know I have the knowledge and skills for this, so I’m quite confident that I can do a bang up job while “on the clock” for this position, but I just have to appreciate the irony of having someone pay me to do something that I’ve been unwilling to do for myself.
Isn’t it ironic? Don’t you think?
That said, I am really looking forward to this position and proving myself.
Okay, on to the rest of this “daily journal” update.
The Day Job
Work at the store is still unsatisfying and unrewarding. I’ll continue to try and push myself to do what I can until I move on either voluntarily or not.
The pay is so pathetic that if this new UpWork position seems solid and work out well, I could actually get enough hours to double my sorry income without working full time on the UpWork project.
Today, I’m doing some laundry and dishes, lol. Still a lot of cleanup to do around the place and working on creating the time and motivation to get it done.
I’m hoping to get back into my ping pong/table tennis activities again soon. Running our local TT site keeps me in touch with the sport, but I need to get back to playing at the club and the occasional tournament.
Too much thinking, not a damn bit of doing aside from the TT site and this personal blog. Hopefully, my new position will provide me with some additional motivation and some creative stimulation. I think it will.
My opening thoughts pretty much cover it.
In addition to the irony of the situation, I think it really illustrates how trapped in the so-called employee mentality many of us are when we need to move on to an entrepreneurial mentality if we want to work for ourselves.
That’s all for the moment folks.
Share your thoughts and experiences in the comments and have a great day.
