How to reopen/reactivate your Amazon Associate account 59

Amazon Associate ProgramNow that I’m finally recommitting myself to affiliate marketing, I logged into my long establishe and long neglected Amazon associate account to this unpleasant notice:

“This account is closed and will not generate referrals. Access to this site is for historical purposes only.”

What do I do about this?

Although I’m not one prone to panic, that did cause a little bit of uneasines.

I’ve never tried to cheat the system or use any special tools to help generate clicks and traffic, so I needed to figure out why the account was closd. Perhaps it was just inactivity from not making any sales in a long time.

I looked for emails from Amazon notifying me about my termination and did not find any.

FYI, if you have an account that was terminated due to violating Amazon’s terms, this post probably won’t help you much. Your best bet is to research the reason they gave, fix it, and beg, beg, beg for them to let you back in. They probably won’t and you will need to find alternatives. There are plenty out there.

After some Googling and further searching through emails, I realized that I missed an email from Amazon back in July:

Important Action Required – Child Directed Policy

Hello,

Thank you for being part of the Amazon Associates program. We’re reaching out to remind you that sites targeted at children under 13 are not eligible to display links and advertising from the Amazon Associates program. To continue your participation in the Amazon Associates program, you need to declare that none of your sites are directed at children under 13.

Important Dates:
August 31, 2015 – We will begin to withhold advertising fee payments to accounts that have not completed their declaration.
October 31, 2015 – We will close accounts that have not completed their declaration.

To complete the declaration:
1. Sign in to your Associates Central account at: https://affiliate-program.amazon.com
2. Click on “Account Settings”, then click on “Edit your website list”
3. Ensure ‘Your website list’ is accurate – by adding new websites or removing existing ones from the list.
4. Click on “Next” and complete the declaration process.

If you have questions or issues regarding your Amazon Associates website list, please contact Amazon Associates Customer Service at: https://affiliate-program.amazon.com/gp/associates/contact.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Somehow I missed this and didn’t take the required action. That led to my account being closed.

How did I get this resolved?

I logged into my associate account and started a chat with an Amazon Associate support rep.

She told me that she could not reactivate my closed account, but that I could reapply by going to https://affiliate-program.amazon.com and clicking on the Join Now link.

I did that and in just a couple minutes I was back up and running.

Whew.

Definitely need to pay better attention to my emails. 🙂

If you’ve been through this or something similar, let me know in the comments on how you got it resolved.

Thanks Chris! Super helpful as I’ve opened my account today and found myself in the same situation. Off to rejoin now.

My account was “terminated” today – the reason given was due to a “copyright infringement.” The name of one of my sites was A2Z Daily Deals and apparently Amazon believes they have exclusive rights to the letters A and Z. I spoke with someone at Amazon Affiliates about this a couple of weeks ago. They did not approve my new site due to this reason. I contended that the term “A to Z” was fairly… Read more »

Hi Chris I am also in Similar kind of situation but my account was terminated because of pop up window special link which comes under this violation (Participation Requirement Number 23 because you have posted or served a Special Link or other content promoting the Amazon Site within a pop-up or pop-under window, transitional page ad, or layer ad.) As you mentioned your account was backed up, I wanted to know that Are you now… Read more »

I get the same message and it’s frustrating. I think that amazon just wants people to refer to their products without paying them for it by banning their accounts and keeping their referral links on their websites and blogs.

I guess I have to pay better attention to my emails, too! I haven’t used Amazon Associates in a while and never realized my account was closed until recently. Thanks for the tip!

My Application isn’t Approved by Associates Team. But How Do I get Payment, Which I’ve earned from my temperorarily Approved Account? Or How To Apply For My Same Associates Account Again? Received Email From Associates Team:- “Hello, We currently accept only Facebook.com &quotFan Pages,&quot &quotVerified&quot Twitter.com pages and/or a YouTube &quotchannel&quot in the Associates program. All other social network sites are not eligible to add Associate links, or for use to create an Associates Account.… Read more »

Thank you so much for this Chris!

I have the same issue. My concern is that Amazon continued to keep letting me generate Affiliate links to products on their site with no error message that the account had been closed. They were willing to keep making money off the links but not pay out. It seems they shouldn’t be able to have it both ways.

Did you close your previous account? Did you use new email address then?

Had the same problem (at least with the message) and your steps worked perfectly! Don’t know if I got an email, but I probably did. I haven’t used my account in years.

Now I have 180 days to make a sale. If I don’t can I just reapply?

Thank you so much for this information, Chris! It was very helpful. I had been neglecting my Amazon Associates account for years, but I just followed your link to join it again, completed all the details, and I was up and running (with a new associate ID).

Cheers!

Hi Chris, Thanks a lot for sharing your experience here. My affiliate associate account was closed for the same reason as yours. Amazon did sent me the notification email but I had left that particular email unchecked for a loooong time. That lead to the closure of my account. Now, I want to contact amazon on that issue but would like to know exactly what you said in your chat that made them invite you… Read more »

Thanks. I did that and still can’t seem to get my amazon account to un-associate with the old associates account, even though I have a new one set up. Guess I’ll have to talk to support (ugh!)
