GetTheBar – the next toolbar time waster?
Well, I was starting to write a post on this relatively new make money doing nothing scheme and after noticing it was starting to ramble(as usual), I figured another blog post conveyed my thoughts in a more succinct fashion. That post is 5 reasons why GetTheBar.com will fail from the Living Room CEO blog.
Just a couple points in addition to what the author there has pointed out.
While the author touches on the fact that there is virtually no real info about the Boloto Group Inc. online, he doesn’t take it further and advise why that is a potential problem IMHO.
Despite the fact that many GetTheBar followers will say that this can’t be a scam because no money is being asked for, dealing with unknown entities such as this can have other consequences that could still cost you money, or worse.
- You are giving personal info to a company and owner, Robert Donnelli that has almost no internet presence or reputation, good or bad. While they claim that info gathered is used for demographics for “advertisers” and is not to be sold, the info given is a valuable commodity that they could easily sell without your knowledge. What have you found online that shows they can be trusted?
- Downloading a toolbar from a virtual stranger opens your computer up to some severe security issues. Personally, I don’t even like downloading extra crap from companies I’m familiar with and have a reason to trust. Again, what readily available info out there leads you to trust your computer, and in many cases, financial info, passwords, personal records, etc. to a company that has established no identity in its 10 year existence.
People just need to learn to evaluate these so called opportunities with their heads instead of their hearts.
Just like AllAdvantage and Agloco, the math does not add up to anything but disappointment in the end and your personal info in the hands of a complete stranger.
I just find it odd that an owner who was supposedly on the Chicago Board Options Exchange and a Wall Street technology firm has no internet footprint to follow, just like his 10 year old corporation that claims
The Company’s technology based applications impact many sectors including internet use, advertising, health benefits and commerce. The Company has invested over one million hours of engineering and development to deliver these applications.

Until it all plays out, nobody can say for certain whether this is actually a sincere attempt at making a seriously flawed business model fly or just a clever scheme to gather information for other uses.
Edited on 02/28/09 to add the following:
Thanks to a recent comment on the LivingRoomCEO blog mentioned earlier, we now at least have a different site to look at — adsbyer.com
Before posting this, I actually did do a google search on the phrases ads by ER Exchange and ER exchange which brought up nothing. Searching for just ads by ER did work.
The adsbyer.com site at least does a pretty nice presentation that lets you run through a demo of setting up an account and ad.
For now, it looks like they intend to charge advertisers $0.10 per click for non-demographically oriented ads and $0.50 per click for demographically oriented ads.
One slightly important thing that their entire site fails to tell potential advertisers is that all members are paid to click their ads. Instead, they word it as “our audience chooses to experience your presentation one-on-one for a minimum 5 seconds GUARANTEED”. The reality is that the audience is obligated to click if they want to earn any money.
Oh well, it will be fun to watch it all play out and see how it develops.
Thanks to Kirk, L. Madison, Pamela M., Zac, and any other recent commentators for your feedback.
@ Zac…. I never said GetTheBar was a scam and even if they were they have no image to tarnish. The fact that my little post on this blog appears on page 2 of the SERPS for a search on Boloto Group tells you they are virtually invisible and have no online presence other than from those promoting GetTheBar and a few of their previous failures.
Why not state just who those household names are that you claim are involved.
If they aren’t going to launch until everything is perfectly seamless, then they will never launch.
Prelaunches have nothing to do with getting a system working properly.
And exactly how much time and money has Boloto Group spent on this? Nobody here can say how much or how little with any authority.
Boloto has been spouting off about changing the way internet advertising works for at least 5 years. Here is a link to an article about their “Library Card” software… http://phoenix.bizjournals.com/phoenix/stories/2005/01/10/story5.html
@ Kirk …. Thanks for recognizing that I do actually care about people.
Other than joining the Powerbar Club what other research would you suggest I do? I generally don’t join anything that I believe is going nowhere. There’s no need to. I’m good with numbers, I know how internet advertising works, and I’ve seen things like this come and go over the years.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been told I don’t know what I’m talking about unless I can see things from the inside as a member of the latest and greatest internet opp.
Hopefully your 656 people are earning you a lot more than Pamela M’s 893 people. I’ve had thousands in various downlines of free opps over the years that earned me very little so the numbers aren’t impressive.
Hopefully they are a big success and I’m proved wrong. I’ll gladly eat crow in that case.
Kirk,
Pretty good one, I’ll bet Chris jumps all over your offer….lol
Anyway, there is no way Boloto put this much time and investment into this project to collect data. They could have bought the data they’ve obtained thus far for a whole lot less.
One other important note to put into the equation, unless Boloto Group intends on changing their name/business identity what possible motive could they have for not being legit since at this point they’re name would be mud online and in the press if this turns out to be a scam.
Another note, I personally have first hand knowledge some household names are involved in this program. Do you really think they would expose themselves to something that would tarnish their public image?
Do you really think Boloto would be so stupid to bring these big names in if they were a scam? I’m talking people who with one statement would make the nightly news. They would ruin Boloto forever it this were not legit.
Bottom line is full launch won’t happen until it’s perfectly seamless. The traffic will increase dramatically after launch. If there are any bugs at all it will be ten time harder to fix at that point.
That’s what prelaunches are all about folks.
Going to be fun being involved when it does go fully live.
Cheers,
Zac
Hey Chris,
Why don’t you just try joining the Powerbar Club and prove to all of us
it’s a time waster?
If you don’t want to do that please take the time to at LEAST do some true research on
the subject. Why not follow a group of people’s efforts USING the Bar and see how they
do? I have been very happy with The Bar so far. On 1/2/10 I had 14 members and now
I have 656. -last night I had 598-so made that while I slept.

@Pamela M
I’ve been waiting since October for the launch. It’s been delayed 3 times now. I’ve pretty much lost patience, me and my 893 people. You would think with that many people, I be making at least decent grocery money, but I’m getting like a few cents a day. That’s proof that people are losing faith in this…
Well I notice that the last Entry was January 25th, 2010. I myself am not sure whether this is a scam or not. I have been a member for 3 months and only started sharing the bar in December. Yes, it is very easy to share. Yes, it costs nothing, and Yes, mathmatics proves the money that can be made.
However, there are several nagging thoughts that I cannot ignore. I wonder why we were told that the PR campaign would launch January 4th and 14 days later, give or take a day or two, the 10 cent ads would launch. We are now 24 days later than the 18th of January and We have not heard one word as to when the ads would launch. I myself have had some customer support problems, requesting assistance from I5 and have never had an answer whatsoever from them. I’ve even noticed my sponsor, who knows Pat Monteforte personally, has stopped sending news updates to his downline. There is no information in the “news and updates” section in the PBC members area. My husband put in a support ticket a week ago to PBC and has not heard a word back. Yet previously PBC was pretty quick to respond to support tickets. I have also noticed as I am sure others have that we went from 10 ads a day to 5 ads a day (I assumed it was because we were winding down 3/10 cent ads to get ready for the 10 cent ads). In the past week I have been able to view 5 ads a day being paid for only 3. I thought the “bugs” had all been worked out. I have many Ideas and Organizations I would love to contact about this….but if I have questions think how many more they will have.
It is quite possible this has run its course before it even began. Will we ever know? I never thought I would get rich but I was sure in hopes I could make that extra 2700.00 that was mentioned in the previous blog. Even though this has cost me no out of pocket money it has cost me quite a bit of time. I am concerned that I may have gained names (something of great value in and of itself) for a company (two in fact) and possibly lost a reputation with friends, family and referrals. If I am doubting without cause please inform me. But I do not believe I am the only one with these concerns.
Also a little note: In your blog state that adbyer.com is a new site…..no no no….it is the same 10cent ads exchange as I5.
I recently signed up for this after doing a little bit of googling to see some reviews. (I missed this one) I am quite hesitate to involve others as I have a feeling now in the pit of my stomach telling me that something just doesn’t feel right. First off, why should they do their so called launch. They have thousands of people clicking now for 3tenths of a cent when the advertisers are paying them 23 cents everytime someone clicks. (I have a friend with a website and he gets paid 23cents everytime someone clicks on one of the ads. It appears to be the going rate)If they ever do their so called launch they would have to share that 23 cents! It’s a win win for them. Their members do all the work recruiting and clicking and they rake in all the money! JMO I will sit back an watch, not holding my breath for this to ever launch.
Yah, this thing still does not launch fully up to this point. Im still hoping it does launch, but looks like they are going to hold it again. The only bearing if this thing is for real or gonna be huge is if they completely “LAUNCH THE TEN CENTS ADS”. Im just watching this program evolve for now. Im a member but not much inviting people. I wanna wait for the 10cents Ads to come first.
OK so it’s been nearly two weeks? So where is the press about i5? I haven’t seen anything in the news or the newspaper about this. Yet I hear that in 3 months “everyone with a computer on this planet will have heard of i5″.
i5, nor the PBC, nor any of my sources, are saying anything about about any new updates as far as the PR Campaign is concerned. I don’t see anything in any media outlet about this (if you do, let me know ASAP). I though the whole idea behind this PR thing was to make it public. I was expecting news features, TV commercials, anything that would tell the public around the world about i5. And I have yet to see anything…
Me and my 838 people are getting rather impatient. =l
Good luck Clarence. And thanks for posting the release Wayne.
The first shot in their “PR Campaign” is pretty much the same thing they’ve done in the past.
Nothing in the NY Times yet from Donnelli’s alleged interview.
Also, that press release isn’t even designed to attract advertisers. It’s designed to draw recruits into the opportunity.
Nothing impressive so far. I’ll be happy to give some kudos when I see some significant press that isn’t just a paid press release that only cost a couple hundred bucks or even if I see some serious cash spent on advertising.
Live links to incomplete websites and their ridiculous statement regarding the names of their executives being kept private on the “About” page from bolotogroup.com also lend little credibility.
LOL
This is the press release issued last night! http://www.prweb.com/releases/2010/01/prweb3413964.htm
True Economic Stimulus:Provide Consumers Personalized Advertising “By Request” and Advertisers Access to Exact Consumers January 7, 2010
Invite5.com and 10CentAds.com Reduces Ad Costs, Provides Exact Audience Interaction
CHICAGO, IL (January 7, 2010) – For Consumers, a vast world of advertising income is opening up with the launch of the Boloto Group’s Invite5.com, a viral web-based membership that provides a share of the ad dollars. In addition, by tagging your friends to Join i5, each member shares virally in the ad dollars experienced by their contacts. For Advertisers, 10CentAds.com provides the missing link of advertising – exact audience access and interaction chosen by the advertiser.
Traditional advertising is a shot in the dark. Whether the medium is television, radio, print or the internet, consumers have been trained over the years to ignore ads. Boloto Group follows a simple industry fact: the only value to an advertiser is the audience. By allowing consumers to choose where and when to view ads and to provide an unmatched value to the advertisers, the consumer earns a share of the ad dollar. That’s Invite5.
The unmatched value for advertisers is a guaranteed 10-second exclusive face time minimum and the unbiased opinion of the ad presentation from one to five stars by their chosen audience. Invite5 membership recognizes and rewards the audience value and connects the advertisers to their exact consumers while immersed in the content the advertiser desires, anywhere on the web.
With Invite5, members are anonymous unlike other advertising platforms. There is no covert data extraction or recording where a member goes on the web. Nor is a personal ID ever shared. Each member has unique code and location on the web to identify their request for ads. This delivers more personalized ads from the advertisers. A simple demographic survey completed during registration provides the advertisers all they need to select their exact audience – the missing link of advertising.
Membership is free and viral. Sharing membership is as simple as playing tag. Create your own invite tag during registration and tell the world to Join i5 with your tag. Whether an organization or individual, everyone that enters your tag during registration is connected to you. That connection is a viral share of the ad dollars when they interact with ads. The viral distribution of the ad dollar continues through seven invite levels. Organizations can provide their audience a life-long value by sharing free Invite5 membership.
“Economic stimulus today is not providing a few hundred dollars to a household one time and hope they spend it at retail. True economic stimulus needs to provide consumers with funds month in and month out that they become comfortable with spending,” said Robert Donnelli, CEO of Boloto Group. “Free Invite5 membership provides just that. There has never been an equal opportunity to earn income. The Invite5 opportunity is unlimited and available for everyone 13 yrs and older worldwide. The Company has worked diligently for years to create a solution for advertisers and consumers. This solution could not have been more timely or more needed than today.”
For advertisers, the 10CentAds.com exchange provides the holy grail of advertising. True audience analysis with exact audience selection, exact content and location mapping, minimum 10 seconds exclusive interaction and unbiased opinion rating of your presentation – all for just 10 Cents. In addition, if the advertisement is entertaining, informative, etc. the audience can click a button and share the ad on over 140 of the largest community, social, blog and video sites. This exposure to millions does not cost one penny more. Viral advertising is free to the world.
For more information about this brand new advertising and the revenue-sharing membership, please visit http://www.invite5.com/

As will I. Take care, Chris. They’re PR Campaign is supposed to start tomorrow (1/4/10). I don’t exactly know what that is, but I’m assuming it has something to do with the public or press.
Unfortunately, hype also sells Clarence.
Even if there were/are people making a lot of money in this, it doesn’t make it a legitimate business. It just means those people are great recruiters.
I’ll continue to check up on them every now and then out of curiosity.
boloto doesn’t do that with i5. The only way I know about anything is with the powerbar club. I don’t here much from i5.
I know some sites that are long on the net and have not yet officially launched but inform the current situation
@ChrisI agree with you on that. To me, that hype mode people get into about something really only raises red flags as to whether or not it will work . People shouldn’t be touting around how great it is. I could understand (a little) if i5 had already fully launched and there were people who were banking serious money off of this, but the thing is still in a pre-launch status (the Ad exchange, the heart of this thing, still hasn’t launched), and it’s not cool that people are going about this like it will be bigger than…um….something that’s already big!I have been waiting very patiently for nearly 3 months (for others it has been a year or two) for this thing to kick off, and it still hasn’t. Yet I see the hype flying around . This isn’t supposed to be a hype kinda thing, unlike those MLMs that I usually never hear about, it’s supposed to be fun, and simple. Not another hyped up MLM that will most likely fall on its ass (although this isn’t an MLM). Hype kills!
They started with the payment – a payment already have a $ 400 repair? crazy and I do not believe that I was done I never have problems with this
@ ChrisWhat’s this adsbuyer.com stuff?Last I checked, they were selling ads at tencentads.com. Maybe they shut that site down for this one?
Hi Clarence,
The adsbyer.com site now redirects to tencentads.com
No big deal. They must have felt that tencentads was easier to remember and more relevant to their target market.
I saw your post on livingroomceo.com and agree that it’s silly to get too amped up for either side about a business that barely even exists at this point.
However, with people out their touting how great it is, you need some others to chime in with possible issues and things to think about.
@Mark Ward
Thanks for the warning Mark.
It would have been nice to know what specific virus(es) you were infected with and exactly where it came from.
This is one reason to be extremely cautious in downloading these types of toolbars, or anything else for that matter, to our computers.
That said, however, I haven’t seen any other complaints like yours specifically about GetTheBar causing a problem like this. Nor have I really searched that much for it.
It could have been an isolated incident and it’s also a good reminder to keep everything that you run on your computer as up to date as possible.
All I can say about The Bar is, it sucks! I just paid a tech $400.00 to repair my computer after it was majorly infected by viruses. This was caused by The Bar toolbar. How do I know this because my computer warned me before it crashed. I do not remember the exact content of this message but I do remember seeing the words Boloto in that error message. My advise is get rid of The Bar and find another way to earn money online if that is your thing.
Disappointed once again.
Mark Ward
Hi Chris,
Thank you for your comments,!
I think it is great that we are able to express our rights to freedom of speech.
In regards to your comment that you have been around for a long while and you see most will just sign in and do their clicks etc sign out ..With The Bar there is no need to sign in or sign out .It sits there ready for you if and when you would like to see what offers are available .
Of course you will get those that will want to click and click some more it would be stupid of me to say there will not be But the point here is that they will only be able to click on 5 adds &
get this though most adds will be things of interest to them.
It is defiantly not a click fest.
However there will be 8 ways to make money and all at zero cost so stay tuned.
Sorry Chris we do not get involved in selling at all ,My new blog covers it.

@getpaid2talk
Thanks for a more useful response this time Wayne.
We’ll have to agree to disagree on the value of incentivized clicks. I’ve been around long enough to know that many, if not most, of the people joining this type of scheme will simply log in each day to put in their time, click their five ads, and log out. Human nature, plain and simple.
You say that people will only see ads for their area. Yet before they eliminated all live links on the adsbyer.com page, I believe the pricing was charging $0.10 for general clicks and $0.50 for targeted clicks. This seems to contradict your statement. Perhaps they’ve changed their pricing and what they offer??
If they ever officially launch, it will be interesting to follow.
The rest of your reply is to the stuff from LivingRoomCeo.com but here’s my $0.02 on that.
#1 No, it doesn’t have to cost to join something to make it viable. However, it does cost to build a business, whether it be time or money. And yes, when I was working for someone else, it cost me 11-12+ hours of my life every day I clocked in to do stuff I wasn’t particularly fond of and found little value in. I was exchanging years of my life for a fee and hopefully a pension that would be valuable enough to help sustain me when I retire.
#2 Sometimes a bad idea is just a bad idea. There is no proof of how much time and money Boloto group has actually put into all of this. Their website claims over 1,000,000 hours of development have gone into all of this. That would be the equivalent of 50 people working full time for 10 years. Sorry, I have a hard time buying into that.
#3 Again, there is no proof of how “charitable” these guys are or how much time and money they have put out. Nothing that GetTheBar is offering is groundbreaking or original. I’ve seen nothing from GetTheBar that would require 10 years of development or substantial amounts of funding.
#4 Even legit money making opportunities bring out the worst in some people. The biggest is of course greed, with people using so much ridiculous hype about how easy it is to become rich doing this stuff.
#5 You can probably see by your own 4500 strong organization that most people are doing little to nothing to promote and build your “free” business. Even though my opinion is that your efforts are misguided, kudos to you for taking action.
It’s ironic that you knock selling a product as that’s what the Boloto Group claims they are trying to do. They are selling advertising using members like yourself as a tool.
True affiliate marketing doesn’t involve “upgrading” or recruiting. It involves selling everyday products or service from companies like Walmart, Verizon, etc. via affiliate networks like Commission Junction or ShareASale.
As stated earlier, it will be interesting to see if/when GetTheBar launches.
Good luck.
Hi Chris,
Wayne Here,
To answer your Question ? Why incentivized clicks would be a better option than current alternatives.
Simply put as a member of The Bar you will get the opportunity to have 5 adds for you to have a look at each day . If they appear to be something one would be interested in then They would click on it .Yes and they would get paid .This is not a click fest as most other ppc’s appear to be . Also remember that one would only be getting adds in their own post coded area.which makes for smarter advertising. They will also be able to look at a classified link which will have classified adds for different things one may be looking for.ie vehicles ,real-estate,etc 9 in total more to come. Either way they have the choice of which adds to look at ! Hope that has answered it for you.
Now to the above link where you have 5 reasons why The Bar will Fail.
#1 No such thing as free money : Why must it be suspect ? Does it have to cost People to join your business ? Why should it after all You do not pay your boss to go to work for him/her Do You?
#2 Yes Business models fail from time to time.
It Is through these failures that a bigger and better model is worked on and finally comes to fruition.yes and it may fail so the cycle is repeated. The Bolotto group have taken a lot of time 10 years infact and money ( Their own ) to make sure to the best of their abillity that this will not fail in the short term or indeed the long term. That is why the proof of the pudding will be in the launch which I must add is so much closer than we think.
#3 No Transparency : I Fail to understand your thinking regarding keeping under the Radar,
I would have thought that charitable people like the men at the Bolotto group Whom have used their own money to develope The Bar wish to stay anomynous this is their choice .
They obviously have the money to develope The Bar and see it become a working model.
I also fail to see how you could even suggest that The Bar or Bolotto group can be in any way associated with companies that you are associated with .By this I mean a get Rich schemes Not once have they asked us for 1 cent.
How much did it cost you to join your scam/scheme ?
#4 Your comment of this model brings out the worst in people is laughable :
By Model I presume you mean MLM.! In case you have not heard Even the great man Donald trump is about to launch a MLM company of his own .Costs you money to Become a member then you buy x ammount of product each month.Auto ships (like most of them Do.)
With The Bar It will never ever cost you 1 cent.but at least you will get paid for looking at a few adds per day that would be of interest to you .Instead of being bombarded with adds you are not interested in.PPC’s
I ask you if you went to a business or purchased a product and thought it was great What would you do with it ? Of course you would Tell all your friends .Wouldn’t you ?
The Bar is the same just invite 5 friends and they do the same (in 5 months I have 4500 app
joined us at The Bar You do the maths.)This is viral advertising word of mouth style.
#5 There is nothing easy about making money on line:This would have to be the smartest thing you have said and it is true.. what makes you the smart one then.I quote you .
#1 method to make money on line is to have a product. My reply :then you will sell this overpriced product at what you think the market will bear with of course a1 time payment x$$ maybe monthly amount also.If sales are slow you would drop the price.lol.
your #2 Is as an affilliate : The great affilliate rip off …Join free ..Then you need to upgrade so as you get the best out of this or that (not for the fact it puts money in the scammers pocket)one time payment /or the the great monthly $amount.you advertise your butt off you may get 10-20 join up then all of a sudden your sign ups stop you are still working your butt off what has happened .(some smartie is ripping off your sign ups .
That just about does it for me .You Stick with your way and I will do it with The Bar .
I think It is bloody wonderful to now get paid for stuff I was doing everyday for Free before The Bar.Cannot wait for the radio and tv to start to pay me also lol .
Have a good life.

Hi Wayne,
In all your ramblings here and at http://www.livingroomceo.com/ you have said nothing that illustrates why our opinions may be wrong.
Here is a simple question for you from a potential advertisers point of view.
What makes a click from an incentivized GetTheBar member worth more to me than traditional PPC where my visitors are actually looking for what I’m selling and not just trying to earn money?
As for spyfu.com what’s your point? Spyfu is a completely different business model with a completely different pricing structure for advertisers. They sell banner impressions and they have a very specific target niche.
Even your own advertising for GetTheBar is a bunch of hype. You say:
“I have found a proven method of building your income from nothing to $2,500.00 and more. It’s free and you don’t need to do any more than 5 minutes clicking once a day.”
How many in GetTheBar are earning $2500/month? A “proven method”? LOL.
Your arguments are no different than the failed AllAdvantage, Agloco, etc. arguments that came before GetTheBar.
Now it’s your turn to give me some answers as to why incentivized clicks are a better alternative for advertisers when history has proven time and time again that they aren’t.
Hi Chris ,
You Are a clever so n ‘so !Another one who is looking for reasons as to why this will not work ! If you do not and I repeat do not have all the facts then why do you take it upon yourself to be the Mesiah.Be fore you open your mouth make sure you have all the Facts ! ( Or do you have a hidden agenda) For yours and any other person putting the boot in to Someone who is Spending their money to Build this concept/Idea not asking anyone of us to put our hand in to our pockets for even $1-00.
